Red Leaf's Mission

Navigating your Healing Journey

At Red Leaf Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine, our mission is to provide personalized and holistic care that helps individuals heal naturally by addressing the root causes of imbalance rather than simply treating symptoms. Located in the heart of Kearny Mesa, we blend the ancient wisdom of Chinese medicine with the art of modern healing to restore harmony in body, mind, and spirit.

Through acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, fire cupping, ear seeds, NADA protocols, nutrition, movement, mindfulness, and lifestyle guidance, our treatments are thoughtfully tailored to each person’s unique needs. We believe true healing comes from treating the whole person, not just the condition, while supporting the body’s innate ability to naturally heal itself and return to balance.

At Red Leaf Acupuncture, we see every individual as a dynamic being deserving of compassionate and intentional care that honors their full complexity. Whether you are seeking pain relief, stress reduction, improved sleep, emotional balance, or overall wellness, each session is designed to create safe, natural, and lasting results that support long term well being.

What is Acupuncture?

How does it work?

Acupuncture is a form of medicine rooted in Chinese medicine that uses very fine, sterile needles placed at specific points on the body to restore balance and support natural healing. These points lie along pathways known as meridians, which connect and regulate the body’s internal systems. When this flow becomes disrupted, it can lead to pain, stress, or illness.

From a modern perspective, acupuncture works by stimulating the nervous system, improving circulation, and encouraging the release of the body’s natural pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory chemicals. It also helps regulate hormones, calm the mind, and support deeper, more restorative sleep. By creating space within the body and allowing systems to reset and realign, the body is able to naturally begin healing itself.

Rather than simply masking symptoms, acupuncture addresses the root cause of imbalance, offering a safe, natural, and effective approach to pain relief, stress reduction, and whole-body wellness.

Pillars of Chinese medicine

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the cornerstone of our practice at Red Leaf Acupuncture. Our licensed acupuncturists use fine, sterile needles to stimulate specific points on the body to promote natural healing and restore balance. It can help alleviate pain, reduce inflammation, and improve circulation, managing stress, enhancing mental clarity, digestive issues, insomnia, and chronic illnesses.

Herbal Medicine

Chinese herbalism is a traditional system of medicine that has been practiced in China for thousands of years. It a form of natural healing which involves using a wide variety of natural substances, such as plants, minerals, and animal products, to prevent and treat illness, maintain health, and promote balance in the body.

Eastern Nutrition

Eastern nutrition, or Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) nutrition, is a holistic dietary approach that uses the principles of acupuncture and Chinese herbalism to promote natural healing. It involves classifying foods based on their Yin-Yang properties, thermal nature, and the Five Elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water), and tailoring diet to individual needs, seasonal changes, and specific health conditions. By aligning food choices with these principles, TCM nutrition aims to support overall well-being, enhance digestion, and maintain harmony within the body and mind.

qi Gong & Tai Chi

Qi Gong and Tai Chi are gentle, mindful practices rooted in Chinese medicine that cultivate balance, energy, and overall wellness. Qi Gong combines slow movement, breathwork, and focused awareness to regulate the body’s energy, reduce stress, improve circulation, and support natural healing. Tai Chi, often described as “meditation in motion,” uses flowing, intentional movements to enhance strength, balance, coordination, and vitality. Both practices create space for the body to relax, realign, and naturally restore harmony, supporting long-term physical and mental well-being.

Fire Cupping

Fire cupping is a traditional Chinese medicine technique where heated cups are applied to the skin to create a vacuum, drawing the skin and underlying tissues into the cup. This suction enhances blood flow, alleviates muscle tension, and promotes natural healing by stimulating circulation and releasing toxins. Typically used to address pain, inflammation, and stress, fire cupping is often combined with other TCM treatments and may leave temporary marks on the skin that usually fade within a few days.

Gua Sha

Gua Sha is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that involves using a smooth-edged tool, often made of jade or stainless steel, to scrape the skin in gentle, upward strokes. This practice is believed to enhance circulation, release muscle tension, and promote natural healing by stimulating blood flow and the flow of Qi (vital energy). Typically applied to areas of discomfort or tightness, Gua Sha can also be used on the face to improve skin tone and texture. The treatment may leave temporary red or bruised marks, which usually resolve within a few days, reflecting the increased blood flow and detoxification.

Ear Seeds

Ear seeds in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) involve the placement of tiny seeds or beads on specific points of the outer ear, based on acupressure principles. This technique is used to stimulate these points and promote the flow of Qi (vital energy) throughout the body, aiming to enhance overall well-being. The benefits of ear seeds can include relief from pain, stress reduction, improved digestion, and support for various health issues by tapping into the ear's connection to different organ systems. Ear seeds are typically used as a complementary therapy to reinforce the effects of acupuncture and other TCM treatments.
